Yamitata, 2023

50x60 cm
Oil, acrylic and textile on canvas

Yamitata is a combination of Tupi-Guarani words. Yami means the night or the shadow of the night and tata means fire. The words are talking about the fire in the night, or the possible life within the forests at night, where all creatures coexist. In the middle of the night a small flame will warm up their hearts.
I experimented using a black and white textile that is commonly used in forests in Suriname. This addition may explore the idea of the interaction between humans and the natural world in this context.
